Palin the Pitbull Placed on Short Leash by GOP

It's typical for the Republicans to try to control Sarah Palin. Straight Talk Express? She's not booked for any of the Sunday morning news shows and won't be having any news conferences or other media appearances that are not tightly controlled by Karl Rove's gang. Of course, she'll likely end up on Fox News but that will be a pep rally, not an interview.

Here are some possible reasons the Republicans want to keep her away from the rest of the "elitist" media:

--She might not know the names of world leaders -- or know which Georgia was invaded by Russia.
--She might be asked about the foolish "community organizer" remark from her acceptance speech
--She might be asked why she wanted to remove certain books from Alaska libraries
--She might be asked why she has welcomed a hate-monger like Pat Buchanan or why the Holocaust revisionist and defender of Nazi war criminals, is so in love with her
--She might be asked why she listened politely in August 2008 to a sermon in her church, in which the speaker attacked Jews and Israel.
--She might be asked about the millions of dollars in earmarks that went to Alaska that were opposed by McCain
--She might be asked why, with a middle class background, her party insulted working people and unions at the convention
--She might be asked why she thinks a woman who is the victim or rape or incest should still have that baby
--She might be asked how a party can cling to a "Country First" theme, then try to divide that country with disgusting (and downright dumb) remarks by Mitt Romney.

This is no Straight Talk Express. Pitbulls only bark and bite and attack when commanded...but they don't speak.  Much like Sarah Palin. 

Americans should demand more from the democratic process and should call McCain and his handlers on this hypocrisy.

Guns, Bibles --and Mars -- Highlight GOP Debate

I'm not sure if it was CNN's choice of YouTube questions or the Republican Party, but the GOP debate confirmed for me how out of touch this party is with the majority of Americans.

Sometimes I thought I was watching a bunch of hate filled Pat Robertsons or Pat Buchanans each trying to prove who was more like Jesus. Other times, I thought I was watching the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association, each trying to prove who had the biggeest or best gun. (This is, in fact, a gang that can't shoot straight when it comes to being in touch with America).

Not one question about healthcare and very few criticisms of the Bush-Cheney Administration. Not one question or comment about the middle class, small business (except farmers), the alternative minimum tax, and the subprime mortgage crisis that might force millions into foreclosure.

Yes, for many Americans it was like these candiates arrived from Mars and had no clue how most Americans live and struggle every day to make ends meet, to pay their bills, to deal with out-of-control health care bills, and to give their kids the best education.

Finally, while I love YouTube, I do not believe this is the way to ask the candidates the questions that matter most to the majority of Americans. Why not simply look at the YouTube questions and then decide which questions come up most and have intelligent political reporters ask them, without the gimmicks used in most of the YouTube format? This is the most important Presidential election in a generation and we as a society should treat it with that kind of seriousness.
