NASA so far is doing everything right in dealing with the arrest of astronaut Lisa Nowak. It's holding two media briefings today "concerning astronauts, their selection and screening, flight training and other matters. "
The first right action was the quick release of a statement by director Michael Coats that said: "We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. The charges against Lisa Nowak are serious ones that must be decided by the judicial system. She is officially on 30-day leave and has been removed from flight status and all mission-related activities. We will continue to monitor developments in the case."
Instead of running from the media onslaught and trying to pretend everything was OK, NASA has tackled this crisis head-on and is taking concrete actions (new screening procedures, etc.) to ensure it doesn't have another Lisa Nowak to deal with in the future.
